Online social media and social networking service Facebook is currently down and is having issues since 11:16 AM EST, May 8, 2017.
According to We Are Social Media website, a Facebook spokesperson has now been in touch to say that the problem should be fixed for all users:
“Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We’re sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.”
Users around the world get the same message while trying to open the site:
A generic error message said “something went wrong”. It went on to say: “We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”
Hashtags #facebookdown and #facebookisdown were trending of Twitter within 10 minutes of the crash.
Facebook could not be reached for comment.
